UNIVERSITY
Akdeniz University is a campus university established on approximately
925 acres of land to the west of Antalya city centre between Dumlupinar
Boulevard and the Uncalı district. It was founded in 1982, and
incorporated the higher education institutions already established in
Antalya, Isparta and Burdur. In 1992 the institutions located outside
Antalya were transferred to Süleyman Demirel University. There are at
present 11 faculties and a conservatory active in the university. There
are also 4 vocational schools within the university providing bachelor
degree courses, 8 vocational schools established in Antalya and its
surrounding districts which offer 2-year courses and 4 graduate schools
providing education at master and doctorate levels.
All the university’s faculties and schools can be found on the campus
with the exception of: The Social Sciences School of Higher Education,
which operates in the Callı district: Antalya Higher School of Health,
which can be found on Cumhuriyet Boulevard in the city centre: The
Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Fine Arts, both of which have
their home in the Topçular district on the eastern side of the city.
In recent years Akdeniz University has taken a great leap forward
towards its present position as one of the most prominent universities
in Turkey. Situated in one of the most beautiful cities in the country,
we attach as great a value to the social development of our students as
we do to the development of education and research opportunities.
Akdeniz University educates and train its students to be individuals
capable of dealing with the challenges of a global working environment.
Our students have access to up-to-date classrooms and lecture theatres
provided with the most modern facilities, backed up by research and
application laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
We can also offer a wide range of facilities for social, cultural and
sporting activities where students can develop their own skills and
talents, and share their achievements with like-minded colleagues.
Akdeniz University, proud of its reputation as a 'Happy University',

their university, while the administrative and academic staff work
continuously to provide the educational excellence and technological
support needed to meet our promise of a happy university life, a
contemporary standard of education, and a bright future for our
students.
Our university has a staff to student ratio of 10.3, with one professor
for every 35.4 students, numbers close to the standards of the best
universities in the world.
The staff consists of 1309 administrative personnel, with 1671 in
academic positions. 198 full professors are supported by 101 associate
professors and 188 assistant professors. 265 lecturers, 768 researchers
79 lectors and 72 specialists complete the staff.
In the 2003-2004 academic year a total of 17,287 students attended the
university, consisting of 6,943 pre-graduates, 9,037 bachelor degree
students, and 1,307 post-graduates.
