Issues in Mass Communication: A Non-Western Perspective

The conference aims at dealing with issues in mass communication in a non-Western perspective.
In the field of communication, similar to many other fields of science, theories, concepts and
technology originates in the West, i.e. Anglo-American world. However, major social transformations
that Western theories and concepts attempt to explain occur in the East. Thus, the main aim of
the conference is to bring the dominance of Western theories and concepts on communications in the
East into academic discussion and re-evaluation. This conference marks the beginning of a new
perspective that grasps the developments in communications and their sociological, political and
economic repercussions in their local conditions.

The Conference is planned to be held in 14-15-16 March 2007. Discussions will be open to public. For further information please contact
